You’ve all probably heard the news lately, and may even be directly impacted at this point, by the developing COVID-19 virus.
Since Wednesday night (March 11th, 2020), the world has flipped upside down, or it has felt that way at least. All we keep hearing about is the coronavirus – on social media, on the news, through friends, at work.
Just a few weeks ago, COVID-19 was deemed “not a big deal” by many. It was less deadly than the flu and we shouldn’t worry, but as time has progressed, the dialect around the virus has made us question our lack of worry and preparation.
It started out as simply being more cautious and washing your hands more frequently; now, we are seeing major events cancelled, work places closing, schools cancelled…and we’re supposed to just ‘keep calm and wash our hands’.
If that’s the case, why is the whole world shutting down as we speak?
And I think this is where the panic is growing. We are all conflicted on how to react to this new virus. There is little information on its potential impact and how to cure it. Naturally, we are reacting with worry and anxiety.
Now, we must understand that everything is being cancelled and human contact is being minimized to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus. Don’t see this as PANIC – see it as being proactive to spreading the virus to those who may be unable to fight it, if contracted.
I’m not going to try and pump more hysteria into the mix, I just wanted to write this post to check in on our community. When things like this happen, we feel fear and push away from people. But, we should use this time of uncertainty to come together, virtually.
Look out for your family and friends, support small businesses online and use the free time to try a new hobby.
All of this rapidly changing news can be scary and confuse us, but don’t let the anxiety overwhelm you. Take it day by day. See how the situation develops. Take necessary precautions, but don’t panic and buy a pallet of toilet paper.
The world has survived crazy shit and we will overcome this as well. Do what you can to remain healthy and avoid spreading to others. Sending positive vibes to all!
