During this time of uncertainty in the world, there is one self-care activity that reigns supreme: binge-watching. I have been accruing a list of must-watch TV shows and movies that have been recommended or that I’ve seen in my endless scrolling, and now is the perfect time to cross a few things off of that list!
Here is what I’ve been loving lately:
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (Hulu)
The drama, the glam, the poised (and not so poised) women – what more could you ask for in a reality TV show? I originally watched Real Housewives of New York in the Fall and fell in love with the quirky housewives and all of their baggage, both physical and emotional, and the women of Beverly Hills do not disappoint! Bonus: new seasons of RHONY and RHOBH are premiering this month on Bravo.
When Harry Met Sally (Hulu)
I am a self-proclaimed movie novice, so when I came across When Harry Met Sally, I knew it was the perfect place to start. It’s an adorable movie filled with friendship, witty banter, and, of course, a happy ending. After watching, I can definitely see how it’s earned its spot in the rom-com hall of fame!
Succession (HBO)
This show is so amazing that I made the theme song my ringtone – it’s that good. It’s a moody, intense drama about a media conglomerate run by a fractured family as they struggle to navigate the many obstacles of life and business. I don’t want to give away too much, but every episode had me reeling.
Sex and the City (HBO & Amazon Prime)
When in doubt, this is a classic. Following four friends as they live and date in the Big Apple, this show will have you blocking your ex on Instagram, browsing Pinterest for 90’s-inspired fashion, and taking quizzes to find out if you are a Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, or Charlotte (I am part Miranda, part Samantha).
Fleabag (Amazon Prime)
After seeing show creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge kill it on SNL, I knew that Fleabag was on my must-watch list. There are only two short seasons, but I grew so close to the quirky main character, known only as “Fleabag”, as she grappled with loss, family turmoil, and even falling in love with a hot priest. The naturally sarcastic way that Fleabag connects to the audience is both loveable and heartbreaking, and leave you wanting another season.
Midsommar (Amazon Prime)
This one is for my horror junkies – and definitely not for the faint of heart. Ari Aster, known for the movie Hereditary, created another disturbing hit, based around cult and pagan traditions in an old Swedish folk story. The actual filmography, costumes, and sets were so well done that it almost distracted me from the gruesome and perplexing plot… almost.
Hairspray (Netflix)
Hairspray is one of those movies that never gets old. I have danced around my living room countless times singing and dancing along to every song, and I have no doubt I will watch it at least two more times before quarantine is over. Such a feel-good classic!
Happy watching!
